2018

Well, here we are! The first day of 2018. For my people it’s an important year that marks the celebration of 100 years from the unification of the three Romanian provinces: Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania. The first two had been united since 1859. I think it was crazy at the time. It was a lot of euphoria throughout the three provinces. 1st of December 1918 is by far the most significant date in the history of this country because, basically, it’s its birthday. I know as a state this country is pretty young. However, according to most historians, Romanian people have its roots in the ancient Dacia that was conquered by Romans during the emperor Trajan. This is why the Romanian language is a latin one. Most of its words are of Latin origin. A lot of words are of Slavic origin, as well. Still, we are not Slavic like most people around us. These one hundred years have been full mostly tragic events, because of the World Wars and then the communism. The country of today doesn’t look like it looked at 1’st December 1918. Some territories from East have been ripped off by Soviet Union after World War II as they agreed with the great winning powers at the time.
